Founded in 1918, the University of Illinois Press publishes more than 120 new books each year, 33 scholarly journals, and electronic projects including the History Cooperative. The Press has long been a leader in publishing in the areas of ethnic and multicultural studies. Recent prize-winning folklore publications include: The Beautiful Music All Around Us: Field Recordings and the American Experience by Stephen Wade and Child’s Unfinished Masterpiece: The English and Scottish Popular Ballads by Mary Ellen Brown. Illinois is the publisher of the field’s premier journal, the Journal of American Folklore, and of Dance Research Journal and the journal Ethnomusicology.
A Mellon Foundation Scholarly Monograph InitiativeFolklore Studies in a Multicultural World is a book series that publishes top-notch first books in folklore studies. Funded by a generous grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the series is a collaborative venture of the University of Illinois Press, the University Press of Mississippi, and the University of Wisconsin Press, in conjunction with the American Folklore Society.
