The Richmond Times-Dispatch profiles Joe Evans’s new autobiography Follow Your Heart: Moving with the Giants of Jazz, Swing, and Rhythm and Blues in advance of the book’s launch sponsored by the Richmond Jazz Society.

“Ask Evans whom he most enjoyed playing with as a musician and he pauses only briefly.

‘The Charlie Parker Band. They were very, very creative,’ he said. ‘I made less money, but had more enjoyment. Every time Charlie played, you’d hear something you never heard before. Charlie just loved to play. If he heard something, even a bird whistle, he’d try to emulate it.’”
