Funk the Erotic wins Emily Toth Award

StallingsF15Funk the Erotic: Transaesthetics and Black Sexual Cultures by L. H. Stallings has won the Emily Toth Award for Best Single Work by One or More Authors in Women’s Studies.  The award is given by the Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association (PCA/ACA).

In Funk the Erotic, author stallings used the concept of “funk” as a theoretical tool, highlighting the importance of the erotic and eroticism in Black cultural and political movements and debunking “the truth of sex” and its histories.

The book is in The New Black Studies Series, edited by Darlene Clark Hine and Dwight A. McBride.

The award will be presented at the PCA/ACA annual conference in Seattle on Wednesday, March 23.
