A unique look at public art in Illinois
This volume presents forty-one sculptures created between 1998 and 2006 by the Friends of Community Public Art in Joliet, Illinois. Cast in bronze, limestone, fiberglass, or steel, and frequently mounted on mosaic-covered columns located throughout the city’s public places, the sculptures run the gamut from highly detailed realism to abstraction, documenting the exciting artistic renaissance in the city of Joliet and its determination to renew and distinguish itself through public art and culture. Featured sculptors include Kathleen Farrell, Kathleen Scarboro, Jesus Rodriguez, Sarah Furst, Marsh Lega, Kelly Gallaher, and Sharka Glet. Filled with 120 color photographs, the volume also includes poetry commissioned from Joliet and Chicago-area poets specifically for each piece.
