The University of Illinois Press seeks a dynamic and visionary individual to lead its books acquisitions program. The Editor-in-Chief establishes the editorial vision and sets the overall direction for the books acquisition program. This position directs the editorial agenda and plans the book publishing program to ensure the highest levels of quality and peer review excellence across all subject areas. The editor-in-chief leads and supervises the acquisitions staff, overseeing budgeting, travel, and work of the department. This position also performs all the functions of an acquisitions editor, acquiring a minimum of 25 high quality new manuscripts per year across several fields and representing the Press to other University units and at scholarly conferences and public events. The editor-in-chief serves as a member of the Press management team, participating in planning, budgeting, and strategizing with director and other department heads.

Founded in 1918, the University of Illinois Press publishes approximately 90 books per year and 40 journal titles in the humanities and social sciences. The Press is located in Champaign-Urbana, a comfortable and lively city offering the best of small town living and urban amenities. Champaign-Urbana features a world-class performing arts facility, top tier research library, excellent schools, diverse and affordable living accommodations, an extensive park system, and an award-winning public transportation system. Chicago is easily accessible by Amtrak or car. St. Louis and Indianapolis are also within easy driving distance.
