From the program’s press release:

“A viewer of the popular PBS series believes he has one of the fewer than six instruments still in the United States that Leon Theremin built himself.  To validate his claim, HISTORY DETECTIVES host Elyse Luray consults with Albert Glinsky, author of Theremin: Ether Music and Espionage.  Glinsky informs Luray that Leon Theremin was not only an inventor, but also a Russian spy. . . . If you’ve never seen a theremin, you’ve undoubtedly heard one.  One of the first electronic instruments, and the only instrument played without touching, the theremin makes eerie, ethereal music, the kind that creates uncertainty and suspense in movie sound tracks.”
