Cuban Zarzuela: Performing Race and Gender on Havanna’s Lyric Stage by Susan Thomas was awarded the Robert M. Stevenson Award presented by the American Musicological Society (AMS) for outstanding scholarship in Iberian music.
Cuban Zarzuela is the first comprehensive study of Cuban zarzuela, a Spanish-language light opera with spoken dialogue that originated in Spain but flourished in Havana during the early twentieth century.
Congratulations, Dr. Thomas!
