We’re pleased to announce that four forthcoming music titles have been awarded publication subventions from the American Musicological Society. These funds help offset the costs of publication and allow us to price the consumer edition of the book affordably. The competition is very stiff and we are delighted these books are receiving this support and this distinction from the AMS.
All of the below titles have received a grant from the General Fund of the American Musicological Society, supported in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
William L. Dawson by Gwynne Kuhner Brown (August 2024)
Beyond the Bandstand: Paul Whiteman in American Musical Culture by W. Anthony Sheppard (November 2024)
Unstaged Grief: Musicals and Mourning in Midcentury America by Jake Johnson (February 2025)
Inside Chinese Theater: Community, Identity, and Artistry in Nineteenth-Century California by Nancy Yunhwa Rao (March 2025)
