Once again, the U. of Illinois Press is hosting the Association of American University Presses’s 2017 Book, Jacket, and Journal Show. Held in the UIP Grand Ballroom, the touring show stops every year in Champaign-Urbana to display those examples of the designer’s art deemed award-worthy by this year’s show committee.
Should you stop by to visit? Of course you should! Particularly if you love books and/or have any interest in stretching the artistic boundaries of graphic design. The Show is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from now through May 5, 2017, at the Press Building, 1325 Oak Street in Champaign. (If you hit the railroad tracks, you have gone too far.) Go in the front door, follow the blue line, and you’re there.
As always, the winning designs show breathtaking range and arise out of a immense body of influences. The show recognizes outstanding achievements in a number of categories: scholarly book typographic; scholarly book illustrated; trade book typographic; trade book illustrated; poetry and literature; reference books; and jackets and covers.
