Things I didn’t know, pt. 2 – Mountains in Illinois

In September 2012 we will publish Picturing Illinois: Twentieth-Century Postcard Art from Chicago to Cairo, an illustrated history of Illinois postcards edited by John A. Jakle and Keith A. Sculle.  I have really enjoyed browsing the proof pages of this book, but I somehow overlooked a postcard scene of Champaign’s Memorial Stadium circa 1930.  A colleague pointed out the large lake and mountains that were apparently north and east of our football stadium just 80 years ago.  Yes, beautiful snowcapped mountains, approximately where Danville is today.

Note:  The top border of the postcard credits Chicago as the location of Champaign’s Memorial Stadium.
