Click for larger imageWe just confirmed a book signing for Thomas Saler, author of Serving Genius: Carlo Maria Giulini, at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Saler will appear at the CSO retail kiosk on May 21, 2010, at 12:30PM, before the 1:30PM Glanert/Mahler program conducted by Semyon Bychkov.

Serving Genius tells the life story of Carlo Maria Giulini, one of the most renowned and beloved conductors of the twentieth century. Saler discusses each of the conductor’s major musical appointments, including stints with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Vienna Symphony, and Los Angeles Philharmonic.

The Chicago Tribune recently called the book “a thorough, balanced and illuminating portrait of the charismatic Italian as man and maestro.”
