Every year at Book Expo we give away a tchotchke at our booth that is somehow related to a current or upcoming book.  I am amazed at how many appointment bound people determined to breeze past our booth can’t keep from stopping when confronted with a freebie.  Four years ago we gave away turkey shaped stress balls in conjunction with Andrew Smith’s The Turkey: An American Story.  In 2007 we handed out Abraham Lincoln shaped stress balls to promote Brian Dirck’s Lincoln the Lawyer.

This year we’ll be handing out hard honey candies to highlight May Berenbaum’s forthcoming book Honey, I’m Homemade: Sweet Treats from the Beehive across the Centuries and around the World, which showcases a wealth of recipes for cookies, breads, pies, puddings, and cakes that all feature honey.

Sure, you might try to avoid eye contact, but you won’t be able to resist the gratis goodies.
