TLS reviews “Golf in America”

Cover for Kirsch: Golf in America. Click for larger imageThe May 21 issue of the Times Literary Supplement includes David Goldblatt’s favorable review of George Kirsch’s recent book Golf in America.

“Kirsch delivers excellent pen portraits of the great, good and obscure in American golf, and quotes richly from the golfing literature of the early twentieth century when exploring the game’s meanings and appeal.”

Goldblatt does offer a criticism of the author for not delving further into popular culture’s engagement with golf, including the woman golfer in The Great Gatsby and the movie Caddyshack. I admit, it was a bit disorienting to read a TLS review that wanted more detail on anything related to Caddyshack.
