Chasing Newsroom Diversity awarded

Chasing Newsroom Diversity: From Jim Crow to Affirmative Action by Gwyneth Mellinger is the winner of the Frank Luther Mott / Kappa Tau Alpha Research Award for the best research-based book on journalism and mass communication published in 2013.

The award is in honor of Mott, Pulitzer Prize winner, educator and long-time leader of Kappa Tau Alpha, the national college honor society got journalism and mass communication. The competition has been held annually since 1944.

In Chasing Newsroom Diversity, Gwyneth Mellinger explores the complex history of the decades-long ASNE diversity initiative, which culminated in the failed Goal 2000 effort to match newsroom demographics with those of the U.S. population.

The award will be presented to Gwyneth Mellinger August 7, 2014 in Montreal during the annual convention of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
