It’s always mushroom season here at the University of Illinois Press.  Edible Wild Mushrooms of Illinois and Surrounding States: A Field to Kitchen Guide by Joe McFarland and Gregory M. Mueller continues to be a strong seller, especially during the spring and fall.

Author Joe McFarland has added some new mushroom hunting stories to his website. The first anecdote, from nonagenarian Marjorie Martin, reminds me of the mushroom varieties growing around an old stump in MY backyard.

“Finally, at the age of 94, Marjorie Martin was able to walk out into her yard one spring day in southern Illinois and pick all of the morels mushrooms she wanted.” (More)
