Matthew Solomon’s recent University of Illinois Press book Disappearing Tricks: Silent Film, Houdini, and the New Magic of the Twentieth Century was announced the winner the Kraszna-Krausz Best Moving Image Book Award.

Disappearing Tricks revisits the golden age of theatrical magic and silent film to reveal how professional magicians shaped the early history of cinema.

The Kraszna-Krausz Book Awards celebrate excellence in photography and moving image publishing. They were founded in 1985 by the prolific Hungarian publisher and founder of Focal Press, Andor Kraszna-Krausz.
