About
Journal of the Muhyiddin Ibn 'Arabi Society (JMIAS) is a peer-reviewed scholarly publication dedicated to the study of the life, thought, and legacy of the great Andalusian mystic Muḥyiddin Ibn 'Arabī (1165–1240). Published biannually on behalf of the Muhyiddin Ibn 'Arabi Society, the journal provides an international forum for rigorous academic research on Ibn 'Arabī's writings and their intellectual, spiritual, and historical contexts. The journal welcomes original research articles, critical editions and translations of primary texts, annotated studies of manuscripts, book reviews, review essays, and occasional thematic symposia. Particular attention is given to contributions that advance philological, historical, philosophical, theological, and comparative approaches to Ibn ʿArabī and the broader Akbarian tradition.

Submissions
Journal of the Muhyiddin Ibn 'Arabi Society (JMIAS) features articles relating to the study of the works and ideals of Ibn ʿArabi and his school. Published twice a year, JMIAS warmly welcomes contributions based on original research and analysis of primary materials. JMIAS assesses articles on the understanding that they have not been and are not being published elsewhere. Please consult articles in past issues for an idea of what JMIAS publishes. Review and publication of an article depends on it being submitted in accordance with the following general guidelines, and submissions not conforming to these guidelines may be returned.
- It should be in English and in its final form, normally not exceeding 7000 words. Longer articles may be considered.
- It should be double-spaced in Microsoft Word in a Unicode font, accompanied by a pdf.
- Transliteration of Arabic, Turkish, and Persian words should conform with the IJMES transliteration system.
- Please include an abstract, keywords, a head-and-shoulders photo, a short biography and an email or letter that includes the author’s name, academic affiliation (if any), postal address and email.
- JMIAS requires footnotes, not endnotes or a bibliography, and all citations should be of printed works wherever possible. The first mention of a work should include all the bibliographical details, with a short form used thereafter.
Please email your submission to mhali@illinois.edu.
All articles are subject to peer review by two independent scholars. Revisions should be made in consultation with the Editor. The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to reject submissions, and his decision is final.
Proofs
Authors will be sent a pdf proof of their article prior to publication. To avoid delays, this should be checked immediately for typographical errors and returned as soon as possible.
